Video Production – CGI Effects
CGI Effects and Special Effects
Visual special effects that are created via computers are known as CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) effects. CGI is commonly used for special effects because computer generated imagery effects are more controllable than other more physically based special effects processes, such as constructing models for effects shots and hiring or persuading extras for crowd scenes. CGI allows for the creation of images that would not physically be feasible using any other technology. It can also allow a single graphic artist to produce content without the use of expensive props, sets, locations and even casting.
Audio special effects are generated for video either through Foley or pre-recorded and mastered sound effects. Foley refers to acting out the scene in a recording studio with the necessary props. Often, Foley sounds are digitally enhanced to emphasize the sound to a more entertaining level of realism and quality. In most cases Foley is usually required because so little actual production audio can be used due to too much unwanted crew and environmental noise, although location audio can still be useful for reference.
